Computer freezes at bios stage, hard drive model was correctly identified but not its capacity. At least one recent review has suggested that a dedicated processor for monitoring functions is A Good Idea. I was going to have to purchase a new SATA controller or motherboard and cpu and memory etc to get that shiny new 1tb drive working. I’ve had a bit of trouble with this, as I am running Ubuntu Linux. Just swap your boot order from CD to this harddrive and you are up and running.

I went to silicon image website, got latest bios At wata, I chose this one for my machine and I am very satisfied: This is on a bootable disk-image containing FreeDos, available from freedos. Thought I was going to have to order a controller for it. The only use of this jumper block is to enable or disable power management for the drive.
I also tried all the possible jumper settings on the hard drive. I just bought 2 1T seagate drives from NewEgg only to find out, like you, that satw sata bios locked up when displaying the size on my Abit AN7.
These boxes are actually different depths, but Abit went to the trouble of creating a step swta the cardboard “shelf” that separates the boxes from the motherboard, so that the top surface would be flush all the way across.
I have never used a SATA drive before, and my first thought was that they can’t be bootable – but I don’t believe this Follow the instructions on the screen, and enjoy: I appriciate all you help if you can help me any more please let me know.

I just got a 1. I figured out the problem by reading aj7 thread somewhere about Hitachi 1TB not being recognized. Returned to original BIOS 4.
I has 4gb taken but i did not see the files, clicked the options to show system files and bang there it was the answer to my problem, windows was installed on the raid but the partialy on th IDE too. Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking “I will just do this quickly.
April 27th, Alright, i know how this sounds and i know it dosen’t sound possible but i think i found what is the problem.

I’m still formatting the drive right now, but Winbloz hasn’t complained about seeing it or working with it. The raid is working.
June 22nd, The second box has cables and lots of them. I was about to give up on my AN7 but now I don’t have to change it for a couple of more years.
