Try scanimage -L and read the backend’s manpage. If you are in the market for a new USB scanner to use under 6300x then I strongly recommend that you select an Epson scanner. I have verified this difference myself; I had Win7 bit and the above drivers for XP installed had worked for years.
If you are a manufacturer and don’t like the fact that you are listed as refusing to release documentation, then you know what to do. The scanner should also work under SANE with the Avision backend, but if you are serious about scanning negatives you will do much better with VueScan.

It scans with the U but the images are unusable. I assume, since it’s using libusb, I don’t have to specify another device file for it to use.
