AHA club-only competitions ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: David Klein Date: Thu, 08 Jan 1998 14:53:48 -0800 Subject: World Cup of Beer, 1998! FOURTH ANNUAL WORLD CUP OF BEER HOMEBREW COMPETITION Homebrew Judges, In the spirit of recognizing the development of endemic styles of beer, the Bay Area Mashers are proud to present the 4nd annual World Cup of Beer Homebrew Competition. We invite you to enter and judge this event. The competition is sanctioned by the BJCP and is a qualifying event for the MCAB national competition. The deadline for receiving entries is March 14, 1998; The judge registration deadline is also March 14, 1998. Final judging will be conducted on March 28, in Berkeley. Like last year, we'll work to ensure a nice resturant environment, with proper beer serving temperatures, and clean glassware to ease your job. Ribbons and prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each category, and to Best of Show. Winners in MCAB related categories will become eligable for entry to the national competition. After judging, we invite you to a party at Golden Pacific Brewing to relax, interact with the professional and amateur brewers who are reviving quality brewing in the Bay Area. The afternoon will then culimate with an awards ceremony. For more information please check out out Web page at: http://www.slip.net/~tcedit/worldcup.htm For more judging information please mail me at klein at wenet.net and let me know if you'ld like me to send you a judge registration packet in the US mail, or if you would like to be registered by email. Leo - this info was posted on JudgeDigest a couple of weeks ago (email BernardCh at aol.com for more details). It's a darn good thing it was posted, too, because the AHA has been absolutely useless when it comes to _any_ info about the club-only competitions for 1998. If I could unload a little here: 1) I have emailed Brian Rezac (brian at aob.org) at the AOB three times since mid-November requesting style-info for the 1998 comps and have not received a single reply. Maybe I have his address wrong, but one of the emails was sent directly off of the AHA's web page, so I doubt it. 2) The club-only comp web page at the AHA is woefully out of date - as of last week, it only reflected competition info for 1997, nothing about 1998 including the Hail to the Ale comp - even though The Music City Brewers seem to think that they are hosting it! 3) Our club hasn't received anything in the snail mail about 1998 club-only comps. With the Hail to the Ale entry deadline approaching in less than 2 weeks, where are the forms and details? It looks like the AHA has dropped the Club-only competition ball. I know that they have a lot on their plate and that this is not the most important thing they do, but our club has an internal competition based on the AHA's announced Club-only styles and it is aggravating to get ignored when requesting info. Is this the newer, friendlier AHA? Even if the AHA doesn't yet know which clubs will host the competitions it would help the brewers if the _styles_ are announced so that we can brew for them......especially the lager styles.
