The Seacoast Homebrewers have incorporated a rule for the Puddle Dock Homebrew Contest that states that "multiple entries within a single category *must* display an obvious difference in ingredients." This leaves it open enough in my opinion to try splitting a 10 gallon batch into two fives with different yeasts, as long as the final products taste *obviously* different. We frequently have people enter multiple brews in the same category and subcategory for comparisons, and I don't recall any instance of people entering exactly the same beer multiple times. (although it would be an interesting test of juding accuracy.) I would personally like to see the this kind of rule go away, as it appears to be just one more unncessary regulation.
