I would tend to agree that background check for officers is over the top; this is a hobby after all.  What was needed at the time were better checks and ballances.  Two signatures for checks above a certain amount should be sufficient to prevent the stealthy transfer of large sums of money.  This is current policy, isn't it?

Hello to all the winners from the first round of the National 
Homebrew Competition.

The packages containing the instructions for the second round, the 
second round labels for your entries, your certificates, and your 
ribbons have been sent out this week.  Second round entries are due 
June 4-13.

If the BJCP considers the idea of performing background checks for officers, I would hope before something so intrusive as that (my opinion) would be put up for a vote to ALL active members of the BJCP. 
  Let me just say that I would vote NO.
