His characters have already been established in his previous novels: It’s a fair bit of dialogue to read, story compressed in a very short time considering the diving and travelling involved, thought the time would have strestched out more.

And everytime I am somewhat disappointed. I wish I could give this story more than 3 stars, but all the jumping around from past to present, and rapid changes of scenery even in the present, made this a confusing book for me. It had a rich vocabulary as well.


Perhaps the greatest secret ever kept What if one of the Ancient World’s greatest libraries was buried in volcanic ash and then re-discovered two thousand years later? Godpel still not sure.

So gosspel anyone with a general interest in archaeology and adventure, I’d say give it a try. This was one of the aspects that made the ending of the novel incredibly weak, although Gibbins did avoid the complete cop-out which I expected at one point. About David Gibbins David Gibbins has worked in underwater archaeology all his professional life.
